BREMERTON, Wash., Jan. 7, 2008 -- Digitalis Education Solutions, Inc. proudly announces the Digitarium(R) Gamma digital planetarium system, the latest addition to the company's best-selling Digitarium(R) line of all-digital planetarium systems. The Digitarium(R) Gamma will make its debut at the American Astronomical Society 211th Meeting, January 8 through 12, 2008, in Austin, Texas.

The Digitarium(R) Gamma combines a high resolution, high brightness DLP projector with a proprietary fisheye lens and a specialized computer control unit. Integrated planetarium and media display software is easily controlled with a unique backlit remote control that works from anywhere in the dome.

The Digitarium(R) Gamma projects a 1050 pixel diameter circle over a full dome with the highest image quality available in a Digitarium(R) system. The lens offers user adjustable focus and contrast, allowing users to choose the settings that work best for their needs. In dual lamp mode, the minimum contrast ratio is 2100:1. The Digitarium(R) Gamma is recommended for use in domes up to at least 17m/56 ft in diameter.

Digitarium(R) systems are ideal for schools, school districts, education service agencies, astronomy outreach programs, science centers, children's museums, colleges, universities, and other portable or small fixed planetariums. They offer an exciting environment that can help students of all ages grasp abstract astronomy concepts and spark interest in science. Educators can simulate the sky from any point on Earth or from other solar system bodies; show constellations from many cultures; demonstrate phenomena such as transits, eclipses, and meteor showers; label or zoom in on any object; etc.

Educators using Digitarium(R) systems can also project images or videos on any subject or play prerecorded fulldome video shows. They can create prerecorded segments or even entire shows using the software's powerful scripting capability. Scripting can alleviate tedious sequences or provide special effects with image manipulation, audio, video playback, and other advanced features.

Digitarium(R) systems offer the best usability and lowest training costs due to their intuitive remote control interface. Educators are liberated from complex software interfaces to focus on their audiences. Free lesson plans get educators started teaching right away. Digitarium(R) systems are designed for reliability, with a solid-state hard drive and no laptop computer required. Digitalis' two year limited warranty is double that of most other competitors.

The Digitarium(R) Gamma system is available in either a portable configuration for $37,950 US or a fixed configuration for $36,200 US [prices have since risen due to cost increases]. With excellent image quality, resolution, and features, the Digitarium(R) Gamma compares favorably even to much more expensive digital planetarium systems.

Institutions with more limited budgets should consider the lower resolution Digitarium(R) Alpha 2 models, at prices under $20,000 US. Digitalis also sells inflatable planetarium domes designed specifically for digital projection in several diameters for a complete portable solution.

Digitarium(R) systems run Stellarium, open source planetarium software available free from http://Stellarium.org. Digitalis encourages educators to use Stellarium with their students. Digitalis employees are regular contributors to Stellarium, which means they are intimately familiar with the planetarium software in their projection systems. Updates and new features are made available to Digitarium(R) system users in an easy, automated manner.
