Simulated M2-9 Planetary Nebula

With the beginning of the new year, it is a good time to look back at events and trends in 2019.

We introduced a number of new base models, including the Digitarium Delta 5 and Theta models. The Theta system is a 2160 pixel diameter, the highest resolution currently available in a single fisheye lens portable system.

Last year also saw the discontinuation of a handful of Digitarium models as projector manufacturers continued to migrate away from lamps towards more eco-friendly laser based projectors. More than half of our models are laser-phosphor based now, with illumination lifetimes of 20,000 hours or more and no lamps to purchase!

We continued to ship and install more of our Aethos fixed-dome multi-projector systems. Our highest resolution Aethos option is now 8k pixels in diameter. (That is more than 40 times the number of pixels of our lowest resolution portable system!) All Aethos models now include our own Digitalis developed camera-based geometric calibration system. This calibration is completely controlled (and can be watched in real time) through a web browser or iPad for unmatched ease of use.

We upgraded our Whole Earth and Solar System Collection add-on dataset hardware and data formats for greatly improved performance. First generation customers should contact us about a free data refresh.

A lot of people do not seem to realize that educational software development is at the core of what we do, and our largest investment area. We have some exciting features currently in testing, and always others still in development. We will talk about these more in later posts.

Our regional training program has been well received. Training covers features and use, and then goes into extensive hands on experience with StratoScript and Augmented Lessons. See our training page for events near you, or to offer to host.

Everyone here feels the Digitalis team is now the strongest ever, with a wide range of skills and backgrounds. Six have planetarium educator backgrounds. We are excited to see what 2020 has in store and we look forward to helping even more educators through further development of our state-of-the-art products and services.

Best wishes for 2020, from everyone at Digitalis!
